While Special Olympics offers 30-plus Olympic-style individual and team sports, Special Olympics Indiana offers year-round sports training and athletic competition in 19 of those Olympic-type sports that provide meaningful training and competition opportunities for persons with intellectual disabilities, reaching more than 18,000 athletes across Indiana.
Athletes can compete at a variety of levels that accommodate a diverse range of abilities. In addition, peers without an intellectual disability can train and compete with athletes in the Special Olympics Unified Sports® program, which brings together athletes with and without disabilities of similar age and athletic ability to train and compete on the same sports teams.
The sports listed below are currently offered by Special Olympics. Those with a CIRCLE ICON are currently offered by both Special Olympics Indiana and Special Olympics Indiana – Ripley Ohio Dearborn Counties. Those with a SQUARE ICON are offered by Special Olympics Indiana, but currently not by Special Olympics Indiana – Ripley Ohio Dearborn Counties.
