In response to growing concerns about the spread of Coronavirus COVID-19, Special Olympics Indiana announced today that it will again suspend all sport trainings, competitions, and other activities involving athletes through May 31, 2020, at which time the situation will be re-evaluated.
Notably, this will include the cancellation of all practices, competitions, social events, including all Area Spring Games and ALPs University. And due to the fact athletes will not be properly trained for competitions, Summer Games on June 12-14th is also cancelled. An alternative date to Summer Games is being explored by SOIN, Indiana State University and Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology.
Jeff Mohler, President and CEO of SOIN, made this difficult decision with support from our Board of Directors and Leadership Team and in accordance with the most recent guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the World Health Organization, and the Indiana State Department of Health.
