Athlete Named to Team USA

Christopher Perdue, age 17, of South Ripley High School, has been named to Team USA for the 2017 World Winter Games of Special Olympics. He will be competing in the sport of Snowboarding. The Games scheduled for March of 2017 will be held in Austria. About 3,000 athletes of 110 nations are expected to participate in the Games.

Every two years, the World Games of Special Olympics are held, alternating between summer and winter sports. Competition in nine different winter sports will be conducted: speed skating, floor hockey, figure skating and ice stock sport will take place in Graz. The alpine skiing and snowboarding competitions will take place in Schladming. And, the Nordic competitions of cross country skiing and snow shoeing will be held in Ramsau.

Chris will be participating in several training camps between now and the World Games. He and the Program are responsible for raising the funds necessary for him to attend the training camps and the Games in Austria.
